Artist Statement
I was born in Berkeley, California, and raised in Ohio and Florida.
My paintings, which oscillate between bitter humor and sloppy
celebration, emerge from a strange soup of fractured memories,
found imagery, Internet garbage, actual garbage, and daily
observation. Painting on Plexiglas allows me to circumvent the
constraints of traditional painting techniques and reference low
cultural forms such as window painting and cartooning. I am
also interested in the way Plexiglas simulates the experience
of consuming images through digital devices. This selection of
paintings reflects on my upbringing in suburban South Florida,
and the state’s gross fascination with and reliance on sports and
tourism.
