Artist Statement
“It is the empty space inside the bowl that makes the bowl useful,”
states the Tao Te Ching. Like the ancient Chinese text, I see
utility in emptiness. As a painter, I explore empty space through
everyday objects like unconstructed boxes, open envelopes,
and blank sheets of paper. I aim to make art that encourages
quiet participation. These open objects are meditative spaces of
potential and possibility.
