Artist Statement
For over three years, deteriorating architecture has served as the central focus of my work. There is such a presence in the face of these buildings. They are enormous man-made assemblages, huge forces of permanence, but they are collapsing in on themselves. Amongst all of the clutter there remains a gentle resolve, as if the buildings were content with their circumstance. Dignity remains, as they turn inside-out.
I collage with found paper to reflect the fragmentation and structural decay of my subject. Once a dimensional foundation is built, I use charcoal, pastel, paint, ink, and graphite to bring definition and depth to these raw materials.
