Artist Statement

My work is driven by rival notions of curiosity and nostalgia. As a transplant, I am attuned to the incongruity between heritage and one’s experiences of the present, and between the swaying impulses that draw one in opposite directions. In that respect, with the goal of exploiting processes that encompass the experimental and the methodic to arrive at the subject, I am attracted to idioms that probe contrasting perceptions of identity and belonging within arrangements that implicate individual works with one another. As an artist, my aim is to nurture and maintain a sense of creative freedom that encourages an inner directedness embracing the peripheral, even the ambivalent, within an expressive whole that can be implicitly shared with the viewer.
