Artist Statement
The paintings are done on location from direct observation. The deliberate attempt to put down what I see is affected by bias and experience. I work on the paintings until they seem to have a satisfying reality to them.
Sometimes I paint people and urban subjects or have fun with funky art commentary reflective of our time.
For most of the past thirty five years, however, my work has been predominantly landscape, somewhat of a communion with elements of our natural world. Some of the intense paintings evolve over months and years of interaction with the natural environment in a particular place.
I attempt to build a painting that will endure indefinitely and I choose my materials accordingly.
