Artist Statement

My creative process often utilizes references from an existing image in a book, magazine or newspaper. Most recently, I have found myself drawn to images of airplanes and birds, evocative of thoughtfulness, transcendence and dreaming. I considerately place the images to create juxtaposition, contradiction, and narrative and try to speak with broad dialect of mark making. This method of working allows for or creates an interruption. This interruption calls for the viewer to try to make the jump to understand why two different images are brought together thus creating a non-verbal experience. This can hopefully give an importance to an image in a world filled with images. Balance plays a large role in my compositional studies; the white of the paper is a space for the viewer to contemplate relationships between seemingly disparate elements.

I am currently living and working in San Francisco.
