Artist Statement

These drawings unravel a light-hearted narrative of world-building and cosmic lineage. Obsessive line work stuffs each image with undulating patterns-which in turn compose vibrating, geometric landscapes. I relish the puzzle of order and composition in the natural world and marvel equally at our capacity to tame it. My content is game-like and chronological, with cause/effect relationships often trailing from one image to the next.

The allure of miniature scale is that it requires close proximity both in the making and in the viewing. On small pieces of paper, layers of teeming lines build throbbing microscopic density. The closer one gets to the marks on the paper's surface-the further reality slips out of focus. Visually easing from one place to the next is otherworldly-especially when those places are silent and peaceable.
