Al Miner became the Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in September 2010. There Miner has curated Daniel Rich: Platforms of Power, the New York painter’s first solo museum exhibition, and Ori Gersht: History Repeating, the first survey exhibition of the Israeli photographer and new media artist, for which he authored an award-winning monograph of the same title. In the fall of 2013 he’ll organize the exhibition Dawit L. Petros: sense of Place and in spring 2014 will open a project with Boston artist, Evelyn Rydz. Prior to the MFA, he worked at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Smithsonian Institution’s museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Washington D.C. There Miner curated projects with Dan Graham and Yoko Ono, served as coordinating curator for the first North American retrospective of the work of the German artist, Blinky Palermo and managed the two-part video art exhibition, The Cinema Effect. He has received fellowships from the Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC), Goethe-Institut in Washington, D.C., the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), Artis foundation, the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Smithsonian Institution among other honors. Additionally, Miner’s passion for the art and artists of our time stems from his own background and practice as an artist.
